When the other kids joined us, Jordyn acted like she was going to faint from the stench.

Divya clearly noticed it too. “How about we spend the rest of the day outside? It’ll do us good to practice for the performance in some fresh air and to channel our zoo characters,” she said in a nasally voice.

We found a shady spot, and Divya blasted out “The Wild Zoo.”

“Inspiration is all around us!” she exclaimed. “Let’s start thinking about our dance moves like pieces of a puzzle we’re putting together.”

I practiced being an alligator as we learned some dance steps. I thought about their strength and how they could adapt. I was so focused I almost crashed into Jordyn again. She waved her hand in front of her nose.

“What happens if we aren’t up for performing next Friday?” I asked Divya. “I’m not sure I’m cut out for this acting business.”

“The show must go on!” Divya said theatrically. “Seriously, though, I think it is important to do things that challenge us, so we’ll grow.”

That reminded me of what Mom had said when she signed me up for camp. I had a whole lot of adapting and growing to do if I was going to survive the performance.
